Kollangott Sri Ayyappa Temple is located about 4.5 kms
east of Kozhikode city on the left side of Mavoor Road which goes to
Mavoor via Medical College. It is believed to be about thousand years old.
Elders say that this temple had daily poojas, annual festivals with
elephant, and other special poojas etc. till about 150 years ago.
No authentic records are available about the history of this temple.The sculptures of Dwarapalakas (ദ്വാരപാലകന്മാര് ) on the walls of the Sri kovil, temple tank (പദ്മതീര്ത്ഥം) with plenty of water even in summer.....
Aarat (Holy bathing of the Deity)on the last day of the annual festival and lowering of the holy flag indicating the end of the festival are so scheduled as to coincide on the day of Makarasamkramam (when sun enters Makaram rasi and Utharayanam begins) and Makaravilakku festival at Sabarimala Sri Dharmasastha temple.
Weekly classes on specified days on various subjects like Upanishads, other vedantic scriptures, epics, puranas etc by venerable teachers like Gurusreshta Sri A.K.B. Nair, Aacharya Sri K.P. Krishnan kutty Kurup, Aacharya Sri. K.Venkiteswaran, Aacharya Sri.K.K Chitharanjithan etc..
Three Deities ie. The self manifested Lord Siva and Devi Sreeparvathy along with the installed Deity of Sree Dharmasatha accompanied by his wives Poorna and Pushkala are present in the sanctum sanctorum of this temple.
